IWEDIA Middleware to reveal UPnP-based digital media player set-top box software
Tuesday, September 9th, 2008RENNES, France — IWEDIA Middleware, the international provider of embedded DVB-based software solutions for digital television devices, today announced that it will be revealing its UPnP-based software solution to enhance set-top boxes with digital media player capabilities.
The solution will be showcased at IBC ’08, which is taking place in Amsterdam from September 12th through 16th.
The solution is a dedicated edition of Comedia middleware that transforms a high-definition (HD) set-top box (STB) into a genuine digital media player. Based on UPnP, it allows the STB to identify the available servers within the home network (e.g. a PC running Windows® Vista™), browse their catalogues, stream stored multimedia content – pictures (HD JPEG), sounds (MP3) or videos (HD MPEG-4 and HD DivX) – over the network and play it via the TV set.
Patrick Desproges, CEO, IWEDIA, says: “With this solution, we have made it possible for the set-top box to deliver a key feature to the viewer: enabling them to play multimedia content that is stored anywhere on their home network on their TV screen, from the comfort of their sofa. This is a significant step towards our vision of the digitally connected living room.”
