CHESEAUX, Switzerland — Nagravision, a Kudelski Group company (SWX:KUD.VX), and the world’s leading independent provider of content protection and value-added service technology, announced today that Taiwan Broadband Communications (TBC) has selected Nagravision to secure and provide integration services for its all digital MPEG-4 cable TV system.

As the systems integrator, Nagravision will provide an end-to-end solution, from an MPEG4 headend that includes Nagravision’s conditional access system (CAS), to High Definition-ready set-top boxes. This comprehensive solution paves the way for the smooth delivery and commissioning of the platform, and ensures TBC is able to launch its new digital TV service on time in the first quarter 2009.

“As one of the leading multi-system operators in Taiwan, we are committed to constantly providing our customers with new and innovative services. As part of our new digital TV deployment plan, we will be providing advanced features that include HDTV and Personal Video Recording (PVR). “, said Thomas Ee, CEO of Taiwan Broadband Communications. “Working with Nagravision will let us take a dramatic leap forward by supporting the best and most attractive services that digital television has to offer, given their experience in deploying advanced digital TV services worldwide.”

“Taiwan Broadband Communications asked us to deliver a phased implementation on a very aggressive timeline and we have accepted this challenge. Supporting and protecting their new digital TV services is an honor and we look forward to helping them offer the latest services as they become available,” said Michael Tucker, Vice-President Asia Pacific at Nagravision.

Taiwan is one of the most cable-enabled markets in Asia with a household penetration exceeding 80% and it is ranked fourth in terms of revenue. In this market, TBC is one of the leading multi-system operators. Established in 1999, TBC serves over 700,000 cable households, across northern and central Taiwan, with a superb range of video, broadband and communications products through its group of system operators. With the move to an all digital MPEG-4 system, TBC will become DVB compliant while increasing the number of services it can offer subscribers.
