CJ Hellovision to Launch Alticast-enabled HD-PVR Service First in Korea

SEOUL, Korea — CJ Hellovision, one of the largest cable operators in Korea, announced on November 18, 2008 that it successfully launched its next-generation HD-PVR service based on OCAP for the first time in Korea.

The Alticast OCAP-PVR middleware solution has been extended to include a full PVR engine integrated with CJ Hellovison’s next-generation EPG. This comprehensive HD-PVR solution based on OCAP/tru2way will run on new set-top boxes based on the Broadcom 7405 chipset.

In addition to the typical PVR and time-shift functionalities, the Alticast PVR solution will fully utilize the features of the Broadcom 7405 chipset, including picture-in-picture (PIP) support. Specifically, CJ Hellovision’s subscribers will be able to conveniently navigate and view other channels via PIP, while simultaneously watching or recording another channel.

Inspired by its successful PVR service launch, CJ Hellovision is planning to extend its services to allow subscribers to enjoy their personal media contents (pictures, movies and music) stored on external hard disk or USB memory on TV by connecting them to the set-top box. Also, remote recording via Internet will be added to its existing services. The extended features will be available by early 2009.
