Broadcom Demonstrates Premier Cellular, Connectivity and Multimedia Processing Solutions at Mobile World Congress

Advanced Technology Solutions Drive Future Innovative Mobile Phones

IRVINE, Calif. — Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), a global leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, will demonstrate its innovative and leading portfolio of complete system-on-a-chip (SoC) solutions for mobile devices at the 2009 Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona, Spain, from February 16th through February 19th.

Broadcom’s mobile and wireless technologies enable manufacturers to develop leading-edge mobile devices and end-to-end wireless connectivity solutions for the home, business and mobile markets. Addressing every major wireless market segment, Broadcom features products for cellular and wide area networking, wireless local area networking (WLAN) and wireless personal area networking (WPAN), supporting a comprehensive range of mobile technologies, advanced global positioning systems (GPS) and mobile TV. This portfolio is enabling the next generation of portable products including cellular handsets, personal navigation devices (PNDs), portable media players (PMPs), gaming platforms and other wireless-enabled consumer electronics (CE) and peripherals such as home gateways and routers, printers, voice over IP (VoIP) phones, home entertainment systems and notebook computers.

Headlining this year’s MWC demonstrations is the newly announced Broadcom® BCM2075 combo chip that integrates Bluetooth®, GPS and FM radio functionality on a single-chip design, complementing the BCM2049 and BCM4329 combo chips launched in 2008. Broadcom’s unique combination approach of integrating multiple wireless technologies onto a single die not only reduces space, power and costs for device manufacturers, but its InConcert® co-existence technology allows simultaneous operation of multiple wireless radio bands with minimal interference.

Highlighting the company’s strength and leadership as a technological powerhouse for mobile devices, the following technologies and products will be demonstrated at the 2009 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona:

Cellular Baseband: Broadcom will demonstrate its single-chip EDGE platform based on the BCM21331 baseband processor featuring an integrated quad-band 2G radio transceiver and BCM59035 power management unit (PMU). Broadcom’s BCM2153 3G HSDPA cellular baseband smartphone platform will also be demonstrated running Windows Mobile® 6.1 with complete wireless connectivity that includes Bluetooth, FM, Wi-Fi® and GPS capabilities. Additionally, Broadcom will demonstrate its BCM21551 single-chip HSPA baseband processor.

Global Positioning Systems: In addition to its family of GPS receiver solutions, Broadcom will demonstrate location based services (LBS) powered by its Worldwide Reference Network (WWRN) – the industry’s most reliable source of assisted-GPS (A-GPS) data. With Broadcom’s LBS, millions of mobile phones and navigation devices can access positioning data via an Internet connection, eliminating the slower process of satellite hunting to establish immediate GPS location fixes. Broadcom LBS also feature Long Term Orbits (LTOs) that delivers assisted GPS data without ongoing access to networks; hybrid cellular tower positioning (with or without GPS); and Secure User Plane Location (SUPL) to ensure high-end security for today’s LBS customers and applications.

Mobile Multimedia: High definition (HD) video and audio is on the horizon for mobile phone users, providing Broadcom the opportunity to demonstrate its newest VideoCore® III mobile multimedia processor that enables hours of stunning media applications on a cellular handset. The power-efficient processor allows mobile phones to support up to six hours of HD-quality camcorder recording and playback, 3D gaming, and up to 12 megapixel cameras with advanced features such as blink and smile detection.

Bluetooth: Bluetooth has become the pervasive low power wireless solution in portable devices enabling connectivity with mobile phones, headsets, game consoles, TVs, PCs, keyboards and mice, printers, digital cameras and more. As the leading supplier of Bluetooth technology to the consumer electronics industry, Broadcom will demonstrate both standalone Bluetooth solutions, as well as combo chip solutions that integrate other technologies such as FM radio (transmit and receive), GPS and Wi-Fi.

Wi-Fi/WLAN: Broadcom is driving Wi-Fi into a multitude of CE devices, from PCs and home networking gear, to mobile phones and video equipment. Broadcom will demonstrate its industry-leading 802.11g and 802.11n solutions that push the boundaries of performance to provide reliable wireless connectivity throughout the digital home. Broadcom will also show its latest Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and FM combination chips that support today’s most demanding mobile data and media applications.

Mobile TV: With the promise of mobile TV on the horizon, Broadcom will demonstrate its ‘TV-on-the-go’ solutions that afford long battery life, incredible reception and low cost to enable mobile TV for the masses. Capable of viewing in deep indoor environments or on high-speed trains, Broadcom’s mobile TV receivers combine simultaneous DVB-H/T support, superior RF performance and low power consumption for an enhanced personal TV experience.
