Second Largest Cable Operator in Mexico Adds Secure Interactivity and On-demand Content while Leveraging Existing Infrastructure

SAN DIEGO and SUNRISE, Fla — Verimatrix, setting the standard in content security technologies that enhance the value of pay-TV networks, and HFCNET & IP-NET, a South FL-based systems integrator and manufacturer for cable and IPTV operators, have successfully completed integration in preparation for deployment of Mexico’s first advanced DVB-C/IP/DOCSIS hybrid network with Cablemás, the second largest cable operator in Mexico. The enhanced digital cable service will feature broadcast digital television in SD and HD, an on-demand library scalable to many thousand titles and interactive features such as time shift TV, digital music channels, Web radio, PCTV, TV Web browsing and social networking applications.

“Under the leadership of Cablemás CEO Carlos Alvarez, the operator opted for a hybrid network because it provides optimum flexibility to offer more tiered service packages with different price points, which is a clear advantage in this economic environment. In addition, the hybrid network approach facilitates the migration towards the all IP network,” said Max Morales, president, HFCNET & IP-NET. “We are very happy to be working with Verimatrix on this type of advanced network. The company’s expertise of two-way networks and vision of unified content security at the head-end have greatly helped streamline the deployment. Verimatrix and IP-NET share a vision of a master head-end solution, which allows operators to provide secure content via one-way or bi-directional HFC, xDSL, FTTH, DTH and wireless access networks from a single head-end.”

Cablemás has deployed IP-NET’s IP-NET VISION, its comprehensive IPTV platform for triple and quad play operators. Through their reseller partnership, the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS™) for DVB has been integrated with IP-NET VISION to secure the delivery of high-quality entertainment services over any type of network. VCAS for DVB enables Cablemás to combine the new DVB-C network for broadcast distribution with the interactivity of an IPTV system using a single security solution with the same head-end infrastructure.

“This deployment is a perfect example of how a DVB-C operator can take advantage of advanced on-demand services through an IP-based network,” says Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer at Verimatrix. “Cablemás’ advanced network is validation of not only our unified content security solution, but also the hybrid network approach to cost-effectively deliver services that customers are willing to pay for.”

The Cablemás deployment features the innovative IP-NET VISION hybrid DVB-C/IPTV set-top box and proprietary middleware to intelligently present broadcast standard and high definition video, music channels, subscriber preferences, parental control, favorite channels, electronic program guide (EPG), digital ad insertion, VOD, time shift TV and personal video recorder options. Cablemás is expected to launch its service in various cities in the near future.
