More than one million households have digital pay TV in Hungary

According to the National Communications Authority of Hungary (NCAH) [Nemzeti Hírközlési Hatóság (NHH)], at the end of June more than one million households in the country had digital pay TV. NHH also estimates that there are nearly 3 million households in total with either analogue or digital pay TV with the remaining households in the country having either free-to-air terrestrial or satellite.
The numbers are based on a survey of 14 TV operators covering about 80-85% of the market. The survey shows around 2.45 million pay TV subscribers for the participating operators, which gives the nearly 3 million total pay TV figure, in line with previous studies.
Satellite is provided by 5 operators, all of whom took part in the survey. The total number of DTH subscribers was 721,905 with market shares as follows: DIGI (57.1%), UPC (25.3%), Magyar Telekom (12.2%) Antenna Hungária (5.0%) and Hello HD (0.4%).
Fixed line (cable and IPTV) data were received from 12 operators, with shares as follows: UPC (36.8%), DIGI (10.4%), T-Home (20.7%), FiberNet (9.5%), ViDaNet (5.7%), PR TELEKOM (4.7%), TARR (4.2%), TvNetWork (2.4%), Zelka (2.2%), RubiCom (1.9%), PARISAT (1.0%) and Invitel (0.4%).
Operator market shares, irrespective of technology, for the 14 operators, were as follows: UPC (33.4%), DIGI tv (24.1%), Magyar Telekom [T-Home] (18.2%), FiberNet (6.7%), ViDaNet (4.0%), PR TELEKOM (3.3%), TARR (3.0%), TvNetWork (1.7%), Zelka (1.6%), Antenna Hungária (1.5%), RubiCom (1.4%), PARISAT (0.7%), Invitel (0.3%) and HD Platform [Hello HD] (0.1%).
