Piksel Launches PikselGuard 4 With Marlin DRM by Integrating Intertrust’s ExpressPlay Mobile SDK

  • PikselGuard Multi-DRM Software Suite Takes on Challenges of MPEG-DASH/CENC Adoption for Multiple Devices Armed With ExpressPlay

LAS VEGAS, NV and SUNNYVALE, CA — Piksel, a global provider of video monetization software and services, and Intertrust® Technologies Corporation, a pioneer of trusted computing technologies, today announced the availability of PikselGuard 4 with Marlin DRM, a leading open standard digital rights management platform. PikselGuard 4 is the latest release of Piksel’s multiDRM software product that incorporates Intertrust’s ExpressPlay™ mobile SDK for Marlin DRM protection.

“The integration of Marlin DRM in PikselGuard is a natural evolution of our multiDRM software product,” said Mark Portu, Chief Product Officer at Piksel. “At Piksel we want to enable content owners to have more choice and flexibility within a single OTT solution. PikselGuard 4 within Piksel’s OTT framework, now with Marlin DRM, is a simple and cost-effective solution that removes the complexities in working across multiple regions, formats and devices. The wide adoption of Marlin in national initiatives around the world and its full support for open standards such as MPEG-DASH/CENC will help make our vision a reality.”

PikselGuard fits within the Piksel Palette, and is at the core of the over-the-top (OTT) implementations that Piksel has developed for several broadcasters and telecom operators around the world. With the support of Marlin DRM, PikselGuard can now deliver DRM services for Marlin-protected content on PCs, smart TVs, set-top boxes, game consoles, tablets, and mobile phones.

By adopting the ExpressPlay mobile SDK, a software development kit for mobile app development, PikselGuard is able to play Marlin DRM-protected content on iOS and Android platforms.

“We are very pleased that Piksel has selected ExpressPlay SDK on iOS and Android,” said John Gildred, Vice President of Product Management at Intertrust. “ExpressPlay is the gold standard SDK for Marlin-protected media apps, and now as part of PikselGuard, it’s easier than ever to get started using Marlin.”

PikselGuard 4 now supports three of the most common DRM formats, including Microsoft PlayReady and Adobe Access.
