CHESEAUX, Switzerland — Nagravision, a Kudelski Group (SWX:KUD) company and the world’s leading independent provider of value-added content protection solutions, and mobile TV operator China Satellite Mobile Broadcasting Corp. (CSM), have entered the second deployment phase for China’s national mobile TV service called China Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting (CMMB). A Nagravision conditional access system (CAS) solution now secures all CMMB services covering 150 cities in China. During phase two of the deployment, an additional 183 cities will be secured by the Nagravision CAS.

“The successful deployment of a nationwide mobile TV service continues and we expect to have 10 million subscribers in 2009 and upwards of 50 million subscribers in 2010,” said a Senior Executive of CSM.

CSM has recently announced that more than 120 companies have launched over 200 CMMB devices and Nagravision is on schedule to complete integration with more than 150 devices by the first quarter of 2009. Nagravision is integrating conditional access into devices such as mobile phones, pocket TVs, and PC dongles. Nagravision is also providing integration for platforms, reference designs and application processors in order to increase the number of secure devices available and to accelerate the adoption of conditional access. In anticipation of continued service growth, Nagravision is preparing to deliver over four million secure chips in 2009.

“The CMMB service will contribute to developing mobile TV services in other parts of the world, because it proves the business case, boosts the development of the ecosystem and reduces device prices on items such as mobile TV handsets, portable media players, and PC dongles. It will also help boost the availability and price affordability of mobile TV consumer electronic devices around the world for all radio standards,” said Jean-Luc Jezouin, Senior Vice-President Product Line Management Digital TV for Nagravision.
