ANT Galio HbbTV Platform Launched For New Standard
Friday, September 4th, 2009CAMBRIDGE — ANT plc (LSE AIM: ANTP) today announced the launch of ANT Galio HbbTV Platform. The new release, building on the already deployed ANT Galio Platform is a complete go-to-market solution providing full support for Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV (HbbTV) services. The major new pan-European initiative HbbTV aims to harmonise broadcast and broadband delivery of entertainment to the end consumer through connected TVs and set-top boxes. ANT, a leading provider of embedded software solutions and services to the digital media industry, will be at IBC this year and showcasing HbbTV based applications such as video on demand (VOD), catch up TV, Games and HD Text at the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) village (stand 10.D21).
HbbTV is led by a cross industry consortium consisting of broadcasters, satellite operators, software providers and hardware manufacturers. ANT is at the forefront of the HbbTV initiative, which combines the richness of broadcast and broadband while providing an alternative to proprietary technologies by delivering an open platform for broadcasters to deliver value added on-demand services. HbbTV was officially launched at the IFA show in Berlin earlier this month and is based on elements of existing open standards and web technologies including OIPF (Open IPTV Forum), CEA, DVB and W3C.
Richard Baker, EVP of Sales and Marketing at ANT, said: “The availability of HbbTV is a landmark development for connected TV in Europe as it encourages the European broadcast industry to adopt one formal, cross country standard for hybrid devices for the first time. It has already received an excellent response from broadcasters and operators in Germany and France. We’re delighted to be supporting Kaonmedia with their HbbTV implementation at IBC. ANT Galio HbbTV Platform provides a rapid route to market for device manufacturers entering the hybrid market with HbbTV devices.”
Kaonmedia will be showcasing their HbbTV implementation on stand number 1.B10. Konan Jeong, Project and Sales Director for Worldwide Broadcasting and IPTV Operation Projects at Kaonmedia, said “We’ve worked closely with ANT on our new set-top box using ANT Galio HbbTV Platform and have quickly developed a strong market offering while delivering an excellent user experience.”
