OSLO, Norway — Opera Software today announced that it provides web technology to Thomson (Paris: 18453; NYSE: TMS), a worldwide leader of services to content creators. The Opera Devices SDK 9.7 web technology will be integrated in Thomson’s line of set-top boxes (STBs), in the STB middleware software “THOMSuite” and the “Thomson Service Platform software SmartVision”.

Opera will serve as one rendering component for next generation of Thomson platforms, which allows for new Web-based services to be developed for multiple devices. Opera will be pre-integrated on Thomson STBs for the IPTV market as well as the company’s hybrid deployments, and it will be used as one of the rendering engines on Thomson’s middleware. Opera’s cross-platform technology can be easily ported to a wide array of Thomson products, reducing overall cost and time-to-market for the company.

“We are excited to be working with an industry leader such as Thomson. Through this collaboration, we foresee Opera technology enabling new and added value content and services on Thomson products, helping them to offer more competitive advantages in the IPTV market,” said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. “Our focus on W3C standards and our compliance with industry IPTV standards are crucial to making Opera a versatile, cross-platform tool. As such, we continue to work hard at being innovative leaders who deliver superior technology to the IPTV industry.”
