Osmosys Broadens Cross-Platform Offering With Complete Push-VOD System

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

Geneva, Switzerland — Osmosys S.A., a leader and innovator in the development of open standards Java based interactive TV solutions, will present its Push Video On Demand application for any broadcast platform at IBC (stand IP233). This cost-effective solution offers service providers more value from their network, generates incremental revenue and efficiently delivers SD and HD on-demand content.

Osmosys Push VOD offers a bandwidth independent means of distributing any form of digital content. The solution is therefore ideal for networks with bandwidth restriction or where cost of delivery is high. In an IPTV environment the bandwidth independence makes Osmosys Push VOD particularly useful for distributing HD content to subscribers. Furthermore, Osmosys Push VOD has the ability to work with any CA system, is middleware agnostic and is available for any broadcast platform, be it satellite, cable, terrestrial or IPTV A wealth of content such as movies, trailers or any other TV programming can be made available to the viewer in the form of customised catalogues via different payment methods such as pay per view or subscription.

As well as the client application, Osmosys Push VOD consists of the system server, which stores and plays video content, and is controlled by the Push VOD Manager solution. This is the heart of the system and is the control interface for the operator. From this web-based control system, users can manage programme descriptions, control bitrates, schedule events, control disk space usage, monitor file transfer status and monitor DVR status.

“Our Push VOD solution is a simple and intuitive application that eases the management of on-demand content to a viewer’s DVR device. We have developed the application to work with any CAS or DRM system, making it totally flexible, cost-effective and easy to deploy,” said David McElhatten, Managing Director, Osmosys. “Service providers are beginning to realise the true value of on-demand programming and want to maximise this opportunity. Our solution is available over all platforms, be it IPTV, cable, satellite or terrestrial, and can be deployed without the need for integration with other head-end equipment. Visitors to our stand at IBC will be able to see how Osmosys is committed to providing a sophisticated Push VOD technology solution for any TV customer.”

Osmosys Push VOD can be used in conjunction with a number of companion products. Osmosys MHP-IPTV middleware is a sophisticated yet easy to use, flexible solution for IPTV based entirely on DVB standards; Osmosys GEM (Globally Executable MHP) IPTV middleware provides a fully standardised interactive layer that can be made to work with any existing IPTV solution; Osmosys Navigator provides a fully customisable user interface, completing the software stack in an MHP IPTV device; and Osmosys iSM (Interactive Services Manager) provides the services platform to take control of an IPTV network.

Visitors to Osmosys’ stand at IBC (stand IP233) can discover more about why its Push VOD solution is easing the transition to on-demand programming, as well as view further middleware, applications, systems and services that facilitate the management of interactive services over all broadcast platforms.
