Chambesy, Switzerland — IBC, Amsterdam — At IBC, Osmosys S.A. (stand IP233), a leader and innovator in the development of open standards Java-based interactive digital television solutions and Advanced Digital Broadcast, a leading supplier of digital TV systems and software solutions for interactive television, announced today that the companies will jointly demonstrate Osmosys’ new innovative EGG™ (Enhanced Graphics enGine) technology on an ADB high definition set-top box at ADB’s stand (5.248). ADB has sold over 8 million digital STBs worldwide and is the first manufacturer to integrate and demonstrate an EGG-enabled product.

“EGG is evidence of Osmosys’ terrific innovation and we are sure that it will tremendously enhance the viewing experience for customers using our set-top boxes. It is middleware independent which provides us a great amount of flexibility in terms of our product offers and enables further opportunities well into the future,” said Karl Tempest-Mitchell, Senior VP Sales & Marketing, ADB. “It is important that we offer digital TV operators a way of differentiating themselves in the market place, and given consumers exposure to high quality graphics in games consoles and other CE entertainment devices, it is necessary to meet and exceed their expectations for digital STBs. EGG offers something totally different to the other options that we have investigated. It is ready and available to deploy on all our HD/AVC set-top boxes now, and combined with its additional features that ensure ease of operability, it is an unbeatable prospect. We are pleased to be showing EGG live on our stand at IBC and look forward to demonstrating how Osmosys’ and ADB technology can push interactive digital TV capabilities forward.”

ADB is to demonstrate EGG-enabled Osmosys Navigator and VOD applications on its ADB-5800C HD model at its stand at IBC (5.248), which will be shown in partnership with high definition content from BBC Motion Gallery. EGG is available today on all HD ADB set-top boxes. EGG, which has a patent pending, is a revolutionary graphics engine and library that delivers a more visually inspiring look and feel to interactive TV graphics with fluid motion, 3D effects, and full animation on platforms that were previously limited to a 2D world. Osmosys Navigator operates with the award-winning Osmosys middleware to provide a complete software solution for digital receivers. Navigator allows the end-user to intuitively install, operate and manage the receiver. “We are pleased that ADB is the first STB manufacturer to offer EGG enabled set-top boxes and extremely happy that they will be demonstrating the technology at IBC. Our existing relationship with the company meant that the integration of this new technology ran smoothly. We are confident that EGG is going to transform the look and feel of interactive digital TV interfaces and that ADB’s customers will be very impressed by the enhancements that it can offer,” said David McElhatten, Managing Director, Osmosys. “We are happy to be providing ADB with a product that will further enhance their already great reputation as one of the most advanced STB manufacturers in the world.”

As well as a demonstration on ADB’s stand at IBC (5.248), visitors to the exhibition can also see EGG being shown at Osmosys’ own stand (IP233), where they will be able to view further middleware, applications, systems and services that facilitate the management of interactive services over all broadcast platforms.
