Changzhi TV Launches New Digital Pay TV and On-Demand Service Powered by Harmonic

BEIJING — CCBN Stand #2404 — Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ: HLIT) today announced that cable operator Changzhi TV, a subsidiary of Changzhi Municipal Radio, Film & TV Bureau in China, has deployed a wide range of Harmonic’s video processing and on-demand solutions to power its new digital TV and time-shifted video on demand (VOD) services. The Harmonic solution provides superior video quality and bandwidth utilization, numerous significant operational efficiencies, and a very powerful, scalable and flexible platform to support Changzhi’s new revenue-generating interactive services. Changzhi TV, located in Shanxi province, launched its new services in December 2009, and is an existing customer of Harmonic’s HFC access solutions.

The comprehensive range of Harmonic technologies selected by Changzhi for this project include: ProView™ integrated receiver/decoders, Ion™ MPEG-2 multichannel encoders, ProStream™ 1000 stream processors with Mentor™ re-encoding technology, NSG™ 9000 edgeQAMs, StreamLiner® 3000 video servers, Armada® intelligent asset management and NMX Digital Service Manager™. Changzhi TV has also selected Star, a Harmonic partner, for its VOD and back-office solutions.
