MUNICH — At the IFA consumer electronics trade show in Berlin, the Munich-based entertainment company Sky Deutschland (XETRA: SKYD.DE) announced a CI-Plus module for the digital reception of Sky programming. CI-Plus is an advancement in CI technology, which is already being used by many modern television sets and has increasingly been implemented in the consumer electronic market. In combination with the customer’s smart card, the CI-Plus module can decrypt activated channels. In order to do this, the module simply needs to be inserted into the intended slot of a CI-Plus-capable TV set. The new technology allows access to the outstanding product experience from Sky without any additional set-top-boxes, cables or remote controls.

Marcello Maggioni, Senior Vice President Customer Group of Sky Deutschland: “Today, many new television sets with integrated digital reception have a CI-Plus interface. Through this innovative technology, the outstanding television experience from Sky is becoming even more convenient. Whether through our PVR Sky+, or through this new CI-Plus module, Sky is enhancing customer choice and making it even easier to access the world of Sky for interested customers.”

The CI-Plus module from Sky will fully support it’s outstanding range of exclusive HD channels, and is expected to be ready for delivery in time before Christmas. Delivery will be carried out in cooperation with select device manufacturers.
