SFR launches 'neufbox EVOLUTION' home gateway and STB
Tuesday, November 16th, 2010SFR (Paris:VIV), France’s second-biggest telecom operator, has launched a new triple-play home gateway ‘neufbox EVOLUTION’ and set-top box ‘Décodeur TV EVOLUTION’.
Based on a Broadcom (Nasdaq: BRCM) chip set, the neufbox EVOLUTION can be connected to either DSL or fibre, and supports home networking via 802.11n wireless, or HomePlug AV over powerline, as well as having 4 Gigabit Ethernet ports. Users can add an SFR 3G dongle to the box to provide broadband backup, and a femtocell module is also to be available as an optional extra.
The Décodeur TV EVOLUTION set-top box (STB) is based on a chipset from STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM) and includes a 250GB hard disk. The box supports Home Plug AV home networking for communication with the gateway, and is 3DTV and 1080p Full HD capable. In addition, the STB includes a transcoding chip that allows box content to be re-formatted for viewing on other web-enabled devices such as smartphones, tablets or a PC.
