Amino Technologies plc (“Amino”; stock code: AMO), the Cambridge-based leader in digital entertainment solutions for IPTV, hybrid/Over the Top (“OTT”) TV and in-home multimedia distribution, has secured a follow-on order to provide its hybrid/OTT technology to support Telecom Italia’s (Milan:TIT) deployment of its Cubovision all-in-one multimedia broadband service.
Launched in December 2010, Cubovision offers home TV access to a range of digital terrestrial TV channels, leading web TV sources, and pay-per-view films as well as personal content such as photos, videos and music. Connected to the TV aerial and ADSL broadband, Cubovision transforms the traditional home TV into an online multimedia powerhouse offering a broad range of digital services and content via a single remote control.
Amino has worked closely with Telecom Italia on the development of the Cubovision device, providing the technology and associated solutions used also on its Amino Freedom hybrid/OTT platform.
Amino CEO Andrew Burke said: “Cubovision is a ground-breaking product which brings together a wide range of entertainment services into a single powerful device. We very much welcome the opportunity to further develop our strong working relationship with Telecom Italia on this exciting and innovative device.”
The technology behind Cubovision features the Intel® (NASDAQ: INTC) Atom™ processor CE4150 and has been specially designed to help meet growing consumer demand for TV-based “Over-The-Top” (OTT) video entertainment. Powered by the first generation of the open-source operating system MeeGo™ for the TV, supported by Intel®, it also supports common Internet formats such as Adobe® Flash®.
