BARCELONA, Spain and SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Mobile World Congress 2012 — Rovi Corporation (Nasdaq:ROVI) today announced that Rovi Entertainment Store, the company’s end-to-end, white-label solution for entertainment storefront creation and management, powers the new Video Store movie service on BlackBerry® (NASDAQ:RIMM)(TSX:RIM) PlayBook™. Video Store provides consumers with convenient access to an extensive catalog of film and TV entertainment, including new releases that will be available for purchase or rent on the same day as they come out on DVD or Blu-ray Disc. Video Store is initially available with BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 in the United States, and is expected to be followed by launches in additional countries later this year.

“Rovi continues to lead as a technology provider for major brands that wish to add value and complement their devices with the addition of Internet-delivered premium entertainment,” said David Cook, SVP, Rovi Entertainment Store Sales at Rovi Corporation. “We are extremely pleased to be associated with RIM’s release of BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 and to be helping provide users with new opportunities to enjoy entertainment on their PlayBook tablet.”

With Video Store on the BlackBerry PlayBook, users will be able to begin watching entertainment within a few moments of beginning to download the content. Users can enjoy entertainment on the tablet’s high resolution display, or on an HDTV using the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet’s HDMI output.

Rovi Entertainment Store enables retailers, service providers, CE manufacturers, content owners, and PC makers to quickly launch over-the-top storefronts that enable consumers to discover, purchase, manage, and enjoy a broad range of new movies and TV shows on multiple platforms and devices.
