Features Demonstration of One of the First ‘Headless’ Hybrid-Gateways

ACTON, Mass. — SeaChange International, Inc. (NASDAQ: SEAC), a leading global multi-screen video software innovator, is demonstrating the latest innovations of its Nucleus soft box gateway at CableLabs® Summer Conference 2012 at the Keystone Resort in Keystone, Colo. through tomorrow.

SeaChange’s Nucleus soft box is the next generation software solution that supports the new RDK (Reference Development Kit) software environment and vendor ecosystem, and enables cable operators’ transition from QAM to IP video so they can offer consumers multi-screen media sharing, whole-home DVR, access to online apps and OTT content, smartphone and tablet apps that act as the TV remote control, and much more. Integrating the SeaChange Nitro User Interface software and leveraging its open, standards-based approach, SeaChange produced the Nucleus soft box solution to seamlessly blend the cable set-top with Internet standards such as DLNA and HTML5. SeaChange’s Nucleus software has been integrated with leading SoC (system on a chip) solutions used by many cable set-top box OEMs.

At the Summer Conference, SeaChange is demonstrating newly developed innovation with its Nucleus software for one of the first ‘headless’ hybrid-gateway set-tops (QAM and IP Video) delivering whole-home DVR and linear video via DLNA or MoCA to multiple screens throughout the home, including Smart TVs, game consoles, and IP-Client set-top boxes.

“SeaChange believes that RDK-based set-top software solutions will significantly improve time-to-market of cable set-top boxes on multiple SoCs. Embracing Internet standards such as DLNA, HTML5, and WebKit, and blending them with the RDK, will bring the best of the Internet into the cable environment,” said Shiva Patibanda, General Manager, SeaChange’s In-Home Business Unit. “We’re very pleased to have been selected to feature our software-only gateway solution at CableLabs’ important forum for the emerging generation of video services.”

The 2012 CableLabs Summer Conference continues its tradition for addressing the technology issues uppermost in the minds and priorities of its member companies, this year focusing on the technology transformation of the video business, the ever-increasing customer demand for access to faster broadband, and cable expansion into business services. CableLabs’ conferences showcase for key technical, business, and strategic executives in the cable industry the latest in content and services that operators may employ to serve cable customers. Applications focus on services that may be delivered to consumers via cable’s hybrid/fiber-coax networks, or by other means.
