Pay TV subscriptions in Russia to hit 37.6 million in 2016

According to J’son & Partners, the number of pay TV subscribers in Russia at the end of 2011 was 28.6 million, up 22.2% on 2010. The company expects this number to reach 37.6 million by 2016, representing 69% of households compared with 52% for 2011.
Satellite TV and IPTV were the fastest-growing segments in 2011 with Tricolor TV leading the DTH market. The IPTV market leaders were Rostelecom, Beeline and MTS.
In 2011, cable TV still accounted for a majority of pay TV subscribers, at 63%, though down 7% compared to 2010. Of the remainder, satellite TV had a share of 32% and IPTV 5%.
According to TelecomDaily in the second quarter of 2012, Tricolor TV had more than 11 million subscribers, Rostelecom (cable TV and IPTV) had more than 6 million, MTS (cable TV and IPTV) was in third place with 3.2 million subscribers, ER-Telecom (cable TV) was fourth with 1.85 million households, and AKADO (cable TV) was fifth with just over 1 million subscribers.
