Collaboration Provides Leading Dutch Operator with Enhanced Security for Multi-Screen Video Service

AMSTERDAM — IBC 2012 — Verimatrix, the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-screen digital TV services around the globe, and Divitel, an independent systems integrator for professional media solutions, today announced they have successfully collaborated on the expansion of Ziggo’s Ziggo TV app. Ziggo is the largest cable operator in The Netherlands, providing video, broadband internet and telephony services to more than three million cable subscribers.

The collaboration enabled Ziggo to expand its Ziggo TV multi-screen service with support for Apple and Android devices. The service, which is delivered via a Ziggo-managed WiFi connection, enables triple play subscribers to view live TV channels via HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) and secured using a Verimatrix ViewRight® Web-enabled app.

Divitel served as the systems integrator for the deployment, which relies on the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS™) for Internet TV to provide a seamless and transparent security solution across a range of devices for streamlined multi-screen video services, while also ensuring the consistent quality of experience (QoE) for consumers. Additionally, VCAS for Internet TV, which includes enhanced HLS security techniques, enables operators such as Ziggo to easily phase in support for additional desktop or mobile devices in the future.

Partners RGB Networks and Edgeware also played critical roles in the deployment, with RGB Networks enabling the transcoding and packaging of the video, and Edgeware’s Convoy Video Delivery Network (VDN) providing a unified framework for video delivery.

“There are many challenges associated with deploying multi-screen video services, with content security perhaps being the most complex and having the biggest impact on the bottom line,” said Gerton van den Beld, chief commercial officer, Divitel. “Partnering with Verimatrix was an easy decision for us, as the company is a true pioneer in multi-network, multi-screen revenue security, and its experts possess the knowledge required to successfully provide enhanced OTT security functionality.”

“In the world of multi-screen video, having a broad and trusted partner ecosystem is critical to the success of the deployment,” said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer, Verimatrix. “When each partner is committed to excellence, truly great results can be achieved for the ultimate benefit of the operator. We are proud of our collaboration with innovators such as Divitel on the Ziggo TV deployment, and look forward to working with them in the future to fuel the rollout of successful multi-screen video services around the globe.”

Verimatrix will be demonstrating its multi-network revenue security solutions at IBC 2012, RAI Amsterdam, 6-11 September 2012. Visit booth #4.B54 to see demos of how the VCAS architecture addresses both current and future business challenges.
