Big-name Dailymotion users in Opera TV Store milestone

BERLIN; OSLO, Norway; PARIS; LONDON — Opera TV Snap, a breakthrough Smart TV app-creation tool launched in July, has caused a boom in the number of Smart TV apps. In the two months since the launch of the new Opera Software technology with Dailymotion as its first partner, over 100 TV apps have been submitted by Dailymotion content partners using Opera TV Snap. These will join hundreds of entertaining apps in the Opera TV Store, spanning video, music, games, social media, news and utilities.

The new Opera TV Snap tool is the fastest and simplest way for content partners to transform their existing Dailymotion video channels into ready-to-run Smart TV apps. The tool is free and takes less than a minute to use, eliminating the costly and time-consuming app-development process and breaking down barriers to entry. Smart TV users have access to a dedicated app for content providers’ videos, and content providers have a simple way to reach many new viewers.

Major brands have been quick to take the opportunity to reach the fast-growing Smart TV audience by easily transforming their Dailymotion channels into TV apps with Opera TV Snap. These include one of Europe’s fastest growing online music channels The Mahogany Sessions, French daily newspaper Le Figaro and environment and green technology channel Green.TV.

The Opera TV Store application platform has already shipped on tens of millions of devices, including Smart TVs and Blu-ray Disc players from Sony and TCL, and is coming soon to TiVo, Hisense and Konka devices.

“It is projected that over 100 million homes will have a Smart TV by 2016, proving that the TV screen is a fast growing new territory for online video. The impressive uptake of Opera TV Snap demonstrates the importance to our content partners of easily exploiting this emerging platform to reach a wider audience and allow users to access their favorite content directly on their TVs,” says Vincent Martin, VP Distribution and Business Development at Dailymotion.

“The rapid surge in app submissions to the Opera TV Store with Opera TV Snap shows just how keen brands and video owners are to share their content with massive new audiences worldwide,” says Daniel Nordberg, Director of Business Development for TV & Devices at Opera Software. “There is no easier way than Opera TV Snap to repurpose online video for TV, bringing that content to the largest screen in the house. It truly is a snap.”
