Novabase Digital TV Technologies, GmbH, Entropic Develop First HDMI IP-Set-Top Box Stick With Broadcast Quality Security

  • Novabase Digital TV Technologies, GmbH Small Form Factor Device Leverages Entropic’s Advanced EN7589 System-on-a-Chip to Support Over-the-Top Applications

LAS VEGAS — International Consumer Electronics Show — Novabase Digital TV Technologies, GmbH, owned by Novabase, the Portuguese leader in IT and Entropic (Nasdaq:ENTR), a world leader in semiconductor solutions for the connected home, today announced the development of an HDMI IP-based set-top box (IP-STB) stick that supports broadcast quality conditional access security (CAS).

The advanced device is a fully-capable over-the-top (OTT) IP-STB with 802.11n wireless support that can be plugged directly into an HDMI input on the television. By having an HDMI input, it can be used in conjunction with existing STBs to add support for OTT content and a web browser to enable operators to cost-effectively expand their service offerings.

“Operators and OEMs are demanding full-featured solutions in small form factors with both hardware-based DRM security and broadcast quality CAS,” said Michael Pauli, managing director of Novabase Digital TV Technologies, GmbH. “By working closely with Entropic, we are able to create a powerful IP-STB solution with broadcast quality security in an incredibly small form factor.”

The device is a high performance IP-STB solution in a very compact size that provides dynamic security and protection for the entire lifecycle of application systems. The device uses Entropic’s EN7589, a dual-core system-on-a-chip (SoC) with 5000 DMIPS that is just 16×16 mm and designed specifically for Novabase.

“Novabase Digital TV Technologies, GmbH and Entropic have a long history of collaboration on innovative, cost-effective solutions for operators throughout the world,” said Roger Gregory, vice president, Marketing, Entropic. “The latest product from Novabase Digital TV Technologies, GmbH is an example of how Entropic’s customers can leverage our unified software development kit and platform architecture to quickly create unique IP video products.”

Availability

The new Novabase Digital TV Technologies, GmbH HDMI IP-STB will be available in Q1 2014. A live OTT demo will be given at CES in Las Vegas, January 7-10, 2014 at Entropic’s Meeting Suite in The Wynn Las Vegas – Alsace Ballroom.
