Expway’s Middleware to Be Featured in Intel Corporation’s LTE Broadcast Demonstration

  • Powerful new technology on display at Mobile World Congress

BARCELONA, Spain — Mobile World Congress 2014 — Expway, the world‘s leading software vendor focused on mobile broadcast, announced the first public demonstration on Intel platforms at LTE Broadcast, a 3GPP standard also known as eMBMS. End-users benefit by having new choices available to them and operators benefit from new revenue opportunities whilst dramatically reducing their cost-to-scale delivery of content to multitudes of end-users. This demonstration of Expway’s eMBMS middleware runs on Intel’s LTE platform with the Intel XMM 7160 modem and takes place during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, on February 24-27, 2014.

The integrated eMBMS solution allows carriers to lower their cost-per-bit by offloading up to 20 percent of mobile video traffic and other large files without requiring new infrastructure. It is tailor-made for situations where multiple subscribers are accessing the same content simultaneously, without clogging the network, even as the number of receiving devices increases dramatically.

“By 2017, 70% of all mobile traffic will be video content. Therefore, video broadcast and multicast will be an essential service in LTE carriers’ future offering,” said Stefan Butz, General Manager Marketing and Product Planning of Intel Corporation. “Through our integration with Expway, our device customers will be able to offer the robust functionality of eMBMS to their carrier customers, widening the suite of services they can offer to their subscribers.”

Expway’s eMBMS Device Middleware controls the eMBMS LTE modem and receives and decodes the eMBMS streams. It stores or displays the received content through a separate Video Player. In contrast to traditional unicast broadcasting systems, LTE eMBMS is designed to work better as the popularity of the delivered online content grows.

The eMBMS demonstration will take place at the Mobile World Congress, at the Intel booth number 3D30 in Hall 3. Expway representatives will also be onsite (Hall 5, Stand B 71). For more information, contact Expway at sales@expway.com.
