bitmovin showcases cloud encoding and browser MPEG-DASH players at NAB2014
Thursday, March 20th, 2014bitmovin showcases high performance cloud encoding and efficient MPEG-DASH players for every browser at NAB 2014
At NAB 2014, bitmovin will showcase its high performance and high quality encoding cloud service as well as MPEG-DASH streaming clients for Web playout on any browser using HTML5 and Adobe Flash.
bitmovin is exhibiting at the NAB 2014 event in Las Vegas, April 5-10 (Booth SU10115). The company will show its cloud-based encoding platform as well as its line of MPEG DASH streaming media players for the Web. In addition bitmovin’s CIO will deliver 2 presentations at the NAB Conference.
High Performance Cloud Encoding
bitmovin will be showing its bitcodin transcoding and streaming service with the highest performance in the market today, demonstrating the speed, quality and capabilities of massively scalable cloud-based transcoding for Live and On-Demand streaming – transcoding HD content in multiple MPEG DASH representations, several times faster than anything else on the market.
The modular architecture of the bitcodin platform delivers the performance to efficiently deal with content-encoding performance issues of tomorrow created by the wide variety of target devices, the increased resolution of content up to 4k, the computational complexity of new codecs such as HEVC and the requirement of live streaming delivery.
The service is currently available on the Microsoft Azure public cloud infrastructure as well as bitmovin’s private-cloud platform and is being piloted by a number of content distributors and solutions providers in a closed beta program.
Highly Efficient Streaming Clients
bitmovin will also demo its adaptive streaming players that deliver MPEG DASH play out for every web browser, supporting HTML5 and Media Extensions and Adobe Flash as a fallback scenario for user that have web browsers that do not support the HTML5 extensions for adaptive streaming.
bitmovin’s players are based on the company’s bitdash client framework available for web, mobile and embedded client platforms, including native application for Android, Linux and Windows. bitdash delivers up to 100% higher effective bitrate throughput compared to existing solutions, in particular in challenging (mobile) network conditions. This results in a highly efficient, high-quality MPEG-DASH playback on a broad range of web, mobile and embedded platforms, and in improved Quality of Experience, or a more efficient usage of network bandwidth.
Better Together
Using bitcodin in combination with the bitdash clients allows for more advanced live streaming use cases including DVR capabilities such as time-shift & catchup functionalities based on Electronic Program Guide (EPG) information.
bitmovin’s Presentations at the NAB Conference
Christian Timmerer, bitmovin’s CIO, will deliver 2 presentations in Las Vegas. On Wednesday 7th April at 3:30 pm he will discuss “Adaptive Streaming Over Emerging Protocols” as part of the OTT Technologies and Services track in room S228. On the 8th of April at 2:00 pm Christian will talk about “DASH reference software and conformance: overview and usage for live services in the cloud” during the DASH-IF Session in the Renaissance Hotel.
