Cubiware Debuts Ultra HD Video in TiVo Compatible Client

AMSTERDAM — Cubiware today announced the successful integration of its pay-TV middleware with a TiVo®-compatible demonstration client that has been upgraded to include decoding support for HEVC Ultra HD video. Cubiware will be demonstrating the integration at IBC, showing the ability of its HEVC-capable middleware to implement a TiVo User Experience on third-party STBs by connecting with TiVo Cloud Services. The new HEVC capability is enabled for STB platforms running the Broadcom BCM7252 SoC. Video content using ultra high-definition HEVC video is expected to be available from European pay-TV operators next year.

Cubiware’s TiVo-compatible implementation enables pay-TV operators to quickly deliver a TiVo-branded user experience and key TiVo features on STBs running Cubiware’s software stack. The STB can deliver a TiVo user interface (UI) and access TiVo Search, Browse, Recommendations, What to Watch Now, and many other TiVo Cloud Service-based features via TiVo APIs. Ongoing cooperation between the two companies is intended to allow STBs with relatively low processing power to become a new category of TiVo client devices.
