OTT IPTV platform enables delivery of high quality linear and on-demand programming to German-speaking audiences globally
AMSTERDAM — IBC2014 — Octoshape, an industry leader in cloud-based, over-the-top (OTT) stream acceleration and contribution technologies for broadcasters, enterprises and carriers, announced today that ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG, Germany’s largest privately held, commercial television and pay TV operator, has selected Octoshape’s broadcast solutions for expansion into Europe and overseas markets.
Fueled by strong demand for their premium content offerings and in order to expand beyond the existing reach of satellite and cable TV, ProSiebenSat.1 required an OTT delivery solution capable of securely delivering broadcast-quality linear and on-demand content to viewers in the local and global market. With a collective audience of about 42 million TV households from within Germany as well as from other countries around the world and 28 million unique online users (monthly average), ProSiebenSat.1’s broadcast requirements included delivery of all of the company’s linear broadcast channels to multiscreen.
“The world has changed and consumer demand today requires content to be delivered to any device regardless of a person’s location,” said Marcel Mohaupt, VP Pay TV at ProSiebenSat.1. “It is imperative that we are able to continuously meet these demands while ensuring the highest level of quality that our pay TV subscribers are used to with traditional broadcast. Octoshape enables us to extend the reach of our audience location as well as make content available on the go regardless of where they are located.”
As a result of integration with Octoshape’s patented Infinite HD-M™ stream acceleration technologies for OTT IPTV, ProSiebenSat.1 is able to make their entire content programming available to any device. The high quality video playback attracts both existing broadcast and new OTT subscribers. Octoshape’s broadcast solution includes cloud distribution and IP contribution services for delivery to multi-screen devices coupled with content authentication for secure content delivery, time shift functionality as well as certain geographical restrictions for content access.
“Following our first meeting with the ProSiebenSat.1 team, it was clear that they had set out to raise the bar in the industry of what “quality” should mean to their end-users,” said Michael Koehn, CEO of Octoshape. “This partnership is yet another great example of how Pay TV operators are adapting to the changing broadcasting industry where high quality, multi-screen delivery is fundamental to innovation and expansion.”
