COLOGNE — German public broadcaster WDR has announced that, with MEDIA BROADCAST GmbH, it is planning to begin test broadcasting in DVB-T2 with HEVC video coding in the Cologne-Bonn area.
The trial will start in August 2015 and provide important insights for further planning. To this end, a working group has been constituted, which will accompany the preparation and implementation of the project. As well as representatives from WDR and Media Broadcast, it includes ZDF, RTL Deutschland, ProSiebenSat1, the state chancellery of North Rhine Westphalia and the state media office LfM (Landesanstalt für Medien).
The broadcasts will use WDR’s Venusberg transmitter in Bonn and Broadcast Media’s Colonius transmitter in Cologne.
