Media Broadcast Chooses Irdeto to Secure Content Across Broadcast and Multi-Screen Ecosystems

ANGA Cable — Irdeto, a world leader in Multiscreen, Revenue Assurance and Media Protection technologies, today announced a new deployment with MEDIA BROADCAST GmbH, Germany’s largest full-service provider for the broadcast and media industry. The Irdeto Integrated Management System, an essential pillar of the company’s end-to-end security offering, provides a hybrid platform which allows MEDIA BROADCAST to easily manage content security services across broadcast networks and internet networks targeting multi-screen devices.

MEDIA BROADCAST currently delivers content over a DVB-T network to more than 7 million German households, and in addition serves around 750 customers, including public and commercial broadcasters, TV and radio production companies, cable network operators, media authorities as well as private enterprises and public institutions. In order to launch its DVB-T2/HEVC based content service, MEDIA BROADCAST required both enhanced flexibility and robust content security. By combining Irdeto Cloaked CA with Irdeto Rights, the management module of Irdeto Integrated Management System enables MEDIA BROADCAST to seamlessly operate content across broadcast and internet distribution networks, therefore removing the need for separate operation of CA based and DRM security.

MEDIA BROADCAST was thereby empowered to centrally manage content usage and viewing policies as well as subscriber management systems across multiple formats through a single user interface. This boosted efficiency and decreased time to market for MEDIA BROADCAST’s DVB-T2 platform launch. The DVB-T2 platform that MEDIA BROADCAST will build and operate offers viewers digital-terrestrial TV in HD quality and more content in a simple and cost-efficient fashion. In future there will also be hybrid offers, such as additional channel packages, which viewers can receive directly on their TV sets via the Internet. The end-consumer DVB-T2 service will be launched by MEDIA BROADCAST within the 1st quarter of 2017. In the meantime MEDIA BROADCAST is testing the technology with a pilot project in the Berlin Region.

With a soft roll out planned to coincide with the UEFA Euro 2016 football tournament and a commercial launch in the 1st quarter of 2017, MEDIA BROADCAST is ensuring that its current and future content security needs are fully met at an exciting time for the business. Irdeto has successfully demonstrated its ability to integrate Cloaked CA and Irdeto Rights for MEDIA BROADCAST in a HbbTV environment, working with NEOTION to provide a conditional access module (CAM) that supports HbbTV SAS (Specific Application Support) integrated with an HbbTV application on TVs. Irdeto Integrated Management System for MEDIA BROADCAST will cover multiple DRMs and simplify content distribution and access across HEVC STB platforms, CI+CAMs, mobile devices and OTT services.
