Mexico passes 7 million cable TV subscriber mark

DISTRITO FEDERAL, Mexico — According to Mexico’s Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones, in the first quarter of 2014, pay TV subscriptions in the country were up 12.1% versus the the same point one year before.
Cable TV registered the fastest subscriber growth at 17.6% to finish with over 7 million subscribers. The satellite TV (DTH) segment also registered significant growth, at 10.9%, to finish with more than 8 million subscribers.
MMDS continued to shrink, down 16.4% versus the first quarter of 2014 to end with 130 thousand subscribers.
