Mexico passes 7 million DTH subscriber mark
Monday, May 27th, 2013DISTRITO FEDERAL, Mexico — At the end of the first quarter of 2013, Mexico’s telecommunications sector had registered growth of 12.5% year-on-year according to the country’s Comisión Federal de Telecomunicaciones (COFETEL).
According to Mexico’s Telecommunications Sector Production Index (Índice de Producción del Sector Telecomunicaciones – ITEL), an indicator published by COFETEL that measures the behaviour of the principal services offered by the industry, in the first quarter of 2013, the satellite TV (DTH) segment registered subscriber growth of 20.9% compared to the same period in 2012. At the end of March there were 7.1 million DTH users. Cable TV grew 4.8% over the year to finish with 5.97* million subscribers.
MMDS registered a decrease of 21.2% versus the first quarter of 2012 to end with 156 thousand subscribers.
