Satellite adds another 369,000 subscribers in Mexico in 3Q 2012

DISTRITO FEDERAL, Mexico — At the end of the third quarter of 2012, Mexico’s telecommunications sector had registered growth of 15.1% year-on-year according to the country’s Comisión Federal de Telecomunicaciones (COFETEL).
According to Mexico’s Telecommunications Sector Production Index (Ãndice de Producción del Sector Telecomunicaciones – ITEL), an indicator published by COFETEL that measures the behaviour of the principal services offered by the industry, in the third quarter, the satellite TV (DTH) segment had registered subscriber growth of 22.9% compared to the same period in 2011. At the end of September there were 6.655 million DTH users. Cable TV grew 3.5% over the year to finish with 5.762 million subscribers, 0.8% down on the total at the end of the second quarter.
MMDS registered a decrease of 31.9% versus the third quarter of 2011 to end with 166 thousand subscribers.
