Satellite TV subscribers up 26.9% Y-o-Y in Mexico in 1Q 2012
Monday, May 28th, 2012DISTRITO FEDERAL, Mexico — At the end of the first quarter of 2012, Mexico’s telecommunications sector had registered growth of 11.9% year-on-year according to the country’s Comisión Federal de Telecomunicaciones (COFETEL).
According to Mexico’s Telecommunications Sector Production Index (Ãndice de Producción del Sector Telecomunicaciones – ITEL), an indicator published by COFETEL that measures the behaviour of the principal services offered by the industry, in the first quarter, the satellite TV (DTH) segment had registered subscriber growth of 26.9% compared to the same period in 2011. At the end of March there were 5.982 million DTH users. Cable TV grew 4.2% over the period to finish with 5.646 million subscribers.
MMDS registered a decrease of 34.8% versus the first quarter of 2011 to end with 191.4 thousand subscribers.
