Satellite TV subscribers up 1.2 million YoY in Mexico at end 2Q 2012
Monday, August 27th, 2012DISTRITO FEDERAL, Mexico — At the end of the second quarter of 2012, Mexico’s telecommunications sector had registered growth of 14.8% year-on-year according to the country’s Comisión Federal de Telecomunicaciones (COFETEL).
According to Mexico’s Telecommunications Sector Production Index (Ãndice de Producción del Sector Telecomunicaciones – ITEL), an indicator published by COFETEL that measures the behaviour of the principal services offered by the industry, in the second quarter, the satellite TV (DTH) segment had registered subscriber growth of 23.5% compared to the same period in 2011. At the end of June there were 6.286 million DTH users. Cable TV grew 4.7% over the period to finish with 5.811 million subscribers.
MMDS registered a decrease of 36.4% versus the second quarter of 2011 to end with 170.3 thousand subscribers.
