Mexico adds 1.5 million pay TV subscribers in 2012
Monday, February 25th, 2013DISTRITO FEDERAL, Mexico — At the end of the fourth quarter of 2012, Mexico’s telecommunications sector had registered growth of 13.4% year-on-year according to the country’s Comisión Federal de Telecomunicaciones (COFETEL).
According to Mexico’s Telecommunications Sector Production Index (Ãndice de Producción del Sector Telecomunicaciones – ITEL), an indicator published by COFETEL that measures the behaviour of the principal services offered by the industry, in the fourth quarter, the satellite TV (DTH) segment registered subscriber growth of 22.4% compared to the same period in 2011. At the end of December there were 6.9 million DTH users. Cable TV grew 5.6% over the year to finish with 5.9 million subscribers.
MMDS registered a decrease of 37.8% versus the fourth quarter of 2011 to end with 134 thousand subscribers.
