ADB’s newest Multi-screen deployment
GENEVA, Switzerland — Advanced Digital Broadcast (ADB) [SIX: ADBN], a leading provider of advanced solutions for connected homes and connected lives, today announced the next multi-screen product deployment. Norway’s Canal Digital Kabel-TV has gone live with ADB Multi-screen running on the ADB Wideband Tuner, an eight-tuner, hybrid cable HD DVR.
ADB Multi-Screen is a software suite that blends broadcast and broadband delivery with home network content redistribution for an enhanced user experience across multiple screens at home and on the move. Multi-screen extends the TV experience to work across multiple devices, giving the subscribers a choice of how they want to interact with their TV content. This solution takes advantage of the new electronic devices in the consumer’s home – e.g. mobile devices, smartphones and tablets – to enrich the TV experience. For anyone who has used ADB Multi-room, this is a natural extension. Thanks to the ADB Multi-screen, the content goes beyond the TV screen, i.e. the content previously available on TV sets can be “taken away” and accessed by means of tablets or smartphones.
Canal Digital Kabel TVs version of ADB’s Multi-Screen provides a complete solution to provision linear broadcast TV, rich metadata and related services on a variety of consumer electronic devices such as STB-connected TV screens and tablet. ADB’s Multi-Screen ecosystem aids CDK to facilitate different services from multiple network types and deliver them to end-users on their preferred screen.
“With ADB’s state-of-the-art Multi-Screen product, operators can now offer enhanced user experience by enabling transparent content sharing, transcoding and follow-me TV features across multiple devices,” said Corrado Rocca, SVP Global Marketing at ADB.
The multi-screen offered by Canal Digital has been made possible using an ADB Wideband Tuner, which first went live in September 2013. The ADB Wideband Tuner is an advanced media hub for the redistribution of content to tablets, smartphones, connected TVs and other set-top boxes. It lets subscribers access content – live TV, recordings, VOD, catch up and OTT services. This solution plays a key role in Canal Digital Kabel TV’s multi-room, multi-screen vision.
“With this multi-screen product we will meet the increasing demand for choice and flexibility among existing and new customers. We will increase customer satisfaction, and ensure that we are the preferred choice in the market”, adds Gisle Pedersen, CEO at Canal Digital Kabel TV.
“After the successful multi-room deployment Canal Digital Kabel-TV decided to launch a multi-screen solution called T-We-See. This solution will help our partner differentiate services, retain existing customers and potentially attract new customers, especially among young people. Multi-screen has become a marketing buzzword used to attract subscribers with the promise of enjoying their pay-TV service throughout their home. But the reality is often a bundled offer for two set-top boxes with limited DVR sharing capabilities,” said Peter Balchin, CEO at ADB. “Our Multi-screen offering takes an alternative approach with a feature-rich, easy to use service that operators such as Canal Digital Kabel TV can deploy easily and cost-effectively.”
