VANCOUVER, BC — Urban Communications Inc. (TSX VENTURE: UBN), one of the country’s first telecommunications companies to deliver Gigabit Internet service to the home, today announced it has launched a private BETA of an IPTV service to select residences in Burnaby and Coquitlam (British Columbia).
The BETA launch includes access to 251 channels of High Definition (HD) and Standard Definition (SD) TV content. The basic package includes 90 channels of which 35 are HD, for $29 per month, as well as the ability to watch live TV on most Android mobile devices.
“We are excited to be introducing our customers to a new, better television experience,” said Urban Vice President of Product Marketing, Jon Paul Janze. “Video is the single largest consumer of bandwidth today, accounting for more than 70% of Internet traffic. It regularly pushes people over their data limits and can skip and lag over the average Internet connection. Our Gigabit speed Internet service with unlimited data transfer is the best platform to deliver an unparalleled streaming video and IPTV viewing experience.”
The BETA period is expected to last through Q1 of 2016 with a full launch of the IPTV service and availability to all Urbanfibre Internet subscribers expected in the second quarter of 2016.
