Strengthens Connected TV Strategy

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Trident Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: TRID), a leader in high-performance semiconductor system solutions for the multimedia and digital television markets, today announced the acquisition of Beijing Tiside Electronics Design Co., Ltd., in a move to enhance Trident’s software and connected TV strategies. Tiside provides cross-platform software that allows multimedia applications to run on devices in the digital living room such as set top boxes or digital TV sets. For Trident, the acquisition strengthens its capability to provide a connected TV offering by adding a tested software suite that includes drivers, middleware, libraries and applications for use with its chip products. Trident and many of its customers are engaged in projects designed to capitalize on the emergence of connected TV.

“Capabilities such as those acquired from Tiside are expected to provide substantial differentiation to Trident-enabled TV, as devices in the digital living room and the Internet continue to converge,” said Sylvia Summers, CEO and President of Trident. “We offer our customers a time-to-market advantage because our tested software suite can shorten the product introduction cycle, reduce R&D cost and increase product quality,” Ms. Summers stated.

Trident acquired Tiside, a 36-person privately-held company located in Beijing, for approximately $1.9 million in cash.
