Conditional Access provided by ViXS ASIC enables secure video content capture

TORONTO, Canada — ViXS Systems, the leading developer of video processing solutions, and China Digital TV (NYSE: STV), the leading provider of Conditional Access (CA) systems to China’s rapidly growing digital TV market, today announced an ultra secure PC-based digital TV capture solution and Conditional Access PCI card co-developed by the two companies. This product will be the first PC capture card with enhanced security available in the Chinese market.

ViXS, a world leader in digital video protection technologies for PC applications, provides secure ISDB-T PC solutions to many leading Consumer Electronics and PC manufacturers including NEC and Buffalo. Drawing upon this experience, ViXS partnered with China Digital TV to develop the STV-TC11P — a one-of-a-kind Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) — specifically for use in this PCI video capture card.

Targeted at the rapidly growing Chinese digital cable TV market, the ultra secure PCI video capture card gives users the ability to inexpensively capture HD video content on their PCs for real-time viewing or recording onto a hard drive for later playback (time shifting). The STV-TC11P ASIC ensures that video content remains protected and that Conditional Access is maintained.

“Our partnership with ViXS represents a great opportunity for China Digital TV,” said Zengxiang Lu, Chairman and Chief Strategy officer of China Digital TV. “ViXS’ ability to provide state-of-the-art PC television tuner applications, and the company’s strong market share and experience in the Japanese and North American PC tuner card markets, make them a sound choice for a partner in this new product area.”

Dr. Lu further commented that as digital television penetration in China deepens, the future is bright for value-added products and services tailored to the needs of Chinese consumers. China Digital TV’s subsidiary, Beijing Novel-Super Media Investment Co. Ltd, is dedicated to being a first mover and market leader in value-added products and services for China’s digital television market.

“ViXS is excited to work with China Digital TV in the development of this important product for the Chinese broadcast TV market. Chinese viewers have long been waiting for a secure way to capture and record digital video onto their PCs, and as we approach the Beijing Olympics the demand for recording HD broadcast video will rapidly increase”, said Sally Daub, President and CEO of ViXS Systems.
