ADB Supplies Telefónica Chile With IPTV Set-Top Boxes For First Launch Of IPTV Services In Latin America

ADB selected by Telefónica to supply advanced, advanced video coding (AVC) based, single-chip, IPTV set-top boxes to Telefónica Chile

Geneva, Switzerland – Advanced Digital Broadcast, a leading supplier of digital TV systems and software solutions for interactive television announced today that it has been selected by Telefónica to supply its advanced ADB-3800W-SD IPTV set-top boxes to Telefónica Chile (www.telefonicachile.cl) – the first telecommunications company to deploy television over broadband (IPTV) services in Latin America. The units are integrated with Telefonica’s Imagenio™ middleware and the product is the first of its kind to be certified and launched on a Telefónica service in the territory. With this launch, Telefónica Chile extends its digital television services offering, incorporating a new delivery technology to compliment its current satellite television service (DTH).

The ADB-3800W-SD is an advanced digital set-top box incorporating MPEG-2 and H.264/MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding (AVC) at Standard Definition resolutions, MPEG-4 being the main compression format used by the platform deployed in Chile. The unit therefore enables operators to optimise their broadcast bandwidth, while presenting consumers with the highest quality in sound and vision. The product includes state-of-the-art hardware features such as a single-chip microprocessor and HDMI™ interface – ADB’s unique operating software ensures enhanced system performance including fast channel decoding and swift rendering of on-screen graphics and applications. ADB has also integrated Telefónica’s own Imagenio™ middleware and application software to provision for the delivery of a feature-rich, interactive IPTV services.
