Japan Digital Serve Corporation selects Ericsson for new OTT Platform

  • Japan Digital Serve Corporation (JDS) selects Ericsson MediaFirst suite to deliver scalable OTT (over-the-top) platform to cable operators across Japan
  • JDS to deploy MediaFirst TV Platform, MediaFirst Video Processing and MediaFirst Video Delivery including the Video Storage and Processing Platform, as well as receive system integration services
  • JDS enabling its cable operators to offer highly personalized and seamless TV and video services across more devices to their subscribers

Japan Digital Serve Corporation (JDS), Japan’s common platformer in Cable, has chosen the Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) cloud-based MediaFirst solution suite as a next-generation TV platform. Cable TV operators using JDS can leverage the new solution to deliver a range of cost effective and innovative video services to its subscribers. The solution suite includes the Ericsson MediaFirst TV Platform, MediaFirst Video Processing, MediaFirst Video Delivery and Video and Storage Processing Platform (VSPP). Additionally, Ericsson will provide JDS with system integration (SI) services including full system set-up, monitoring and ongoing support and consultation.

The implementation will help JDS operationalize an OTT platform and enable its operators to harness key capabilities. This includes acommon platform for effective creation, operation and delivery of content as well as a modern cloud-based IP broadcast delivery system that has actionable analytics, multiscreen delivery, multi-DRM support, time shifted content, recommendations, promotional bundles, and targeted advertising.

Ericsson MediaFirst TV Platform is a software-defined, media-optimized platform for the creation, management and delivery of next generation Pay TV. The cloud-based platform will sit alongside MediaFirst Video Processing which offers virtualization in content exchange, distribution and software-defined live UHD encoding and MediaFirst Video Delivery which provides a single, comprehensive media processing suite that addresses every stage of the media delivery chain. MediaFirst Video Delivery includes Ericsson VSPP which is ideal for time-shifted services including cloud DVR.

JDS was established in 2000 to support the digitization of cable TV across Japan and currently offers the efficient delivery service of traditional multi-channel broadcast programs (approximately 200 channels (UHD/HD/SD) to over 200 individual cable operators with a combined 6 million subscribers. In recent years, JDS is working on to extend its services and contributions toward next-generation TV services including Live-TV, Time-shifted TV and Catch Up TV (OTT Services) so that subscribers will be able to more enjoy watching TV programs with attractive user interface and experiences.
