Zone·tv Expands Its Pay-TV Set-Top Box Reach Through The Cloud

  • Demonstrates with ActiveVideo Delivery of Curated Online Content at NAB 2017

LOS ANGELES & SAN JOSE, CA — ZoneTV and ActiveVideo® today announced that ZoneTV’s made-for-digital video content can be delivered directly to the vast footprint of pay-TV set-top boxes, using the power of cloud virtualization.

At NAB 2017, the two companies are demonstrating how pay-TV operators can harness the power of the cloud to deliver ZoneTV’s new Dynamic Channels on existing and next-generation STBs. Using ActiveVideo CloudTV StreamCast, ZoneTV’s lineup of more than 20 free and premium channels can be integrated into pay-TV program guides, so consumers can view ZoneTV content without changing television inputs or remote controls.

“This is a very important moment for ZoneTV,” said Jeff Weber, CEO, ZoneTV. “Literally with the push of a button, consumers can access ZoneTV Dynamic Channels alongside traditional linear and VOD channels, thus enhancing the operator’s ability to seamlessly integrate curated content with pay-TV content.”

“The flexibility to tap into expansive libraries of digital content creates new opportunities for pay-TV operators, online video providers and subscribers,” said Jeff Miller, president and CEO of ActiveVideo. “By empowering companies such as ZoneTV to gain access to installed and future STBs, ActiveVideo is providing the foundation for new content paradigms that can unlock next-generation revenue streams for pay-TV operators.”

ZoneTV’s current services are already carried by numerous U.S. and Canadian pay-TV service providers. The programming company curates its digital-first content into enhanced Dynamic Channels, eliminating the need by viewers to hunt for online content or pay for access to multiple sites or devices, turning this incredible content into an exciting and easy-to-use television experience.

ActiveVideo CloudTV StreamCast uses cloud virtualization to provide access to new content libraries for pay-TV operators, and to pay-TV subscribers for online video providers. StreamCast bridges the Digital Rights Management (DRM) and video format gaps between online and pay-TV operators in the cloud. The content and the user interface are delivered as a single interactive MPEG or H.264 video stream via the pay-TV network, resulting in a rich, seamless user experience.

ZoneTV’s Dynamic Channels delivered by ActiveVideo will be demonstrated in the ARRIS booth SU1916 at NAB 2017.
