Fibre has become the leading technology for the distribution of pay TV in Norway according to the country’s National Communications Authority (Nkom – Nasjonal kommunikasjonsmyndighet)
At the end of 2018, 757,000 TV subscriptions were based on fibre, an increase of more than 94,000 versus 2017. The number of cable TV subscriptions continued to decline, as did the number watching satellite TV. There was also a slight decrease in the number of paid subscriptions to digital terrestrial (digitalt bakkenett).
At the end of 2018, there were over 2.2 million TV subscriptions in the country, 28,000 fewer than a year earlier. Services such as Netflix and HBO are not included in these numbers.
