CAMBRIDGE, UK — Entel, the national telecommunications operator in Bolivia, has begun a major deployment of AminoVU set-top boxes running on AminoOS to deliver IPTV services across its newly deployed fiber network, which covers almost 100% of the country.

Currently, Entel has a broad consumer offering including telephony, mobile, broadband and satellite TV and is broadening this range of services by deploying IPTV nationally as part of an aggressive drive to increase connectivity and digital service quality throughout the country.

The government-owned telco rollout of IPTV services is the first in Bolivia and has a broad range of entertainment, news and sports content. Entel selected Amino’s IPTV devices running on Linux as part of a solution that includes Minerva middleware and Verimatrix conditional access.

Discussing Bolivia’s first nationwide IPTV rollout, an Entel spokesperson said: “This major deployment of Amino set-top-boxes enables us to widen consumer choice by providing IPTV entertainment services over fiber in almost 300 towns. We selected Amino to play this important role in our IPTV roll-out primarily due to its excellent reputation for flexibility, reliability and cost-effective performance.”

Amino CEO Donald McGarva said: “Deploying fiber optic networks enables telcos such as Entel to broaden their consumer offering and make the most of their existing customer relationships through launching IPTV services. Entel is a very forward-thinking operator with exciting plans to deliver new services countrywide and we’re very pleased to be playing a key role through the successful roll-out of our AminoOS powered devices.”

Headquartered in La Paz, the state-run operator has 100% national coverage and has recently extended its drive to provide telecommunications services to every community in the country.
