Irdeto brings enhanced security to Intigral’s Jawwy TV’s Android TV set-top boxes
- Intigral to take advantage of Irdeto’s Keys & Credentials and App Watch to secure their content
AMSTERDAM — Irdeto, the world leader in digital platform security, today announces the implementation of a range of security and anti-piracy tools and services by Intigral, a subsidiary of Saudi Telecom Company. Intigral’s premium Jawwy TV platform provides OTT services for viewers across the Middle East and North Africa region.
Intigral will combat content piracy and protect Jawwy TV customers from malicious applications by implementing Irdeto Keys & Credentials (K&C) and App Watch on their Android TV set-top boxes. Using K&C for STBs, Intigral has built a trusted identity into each of Jawwy TV’s STBs to ensure that only those Android TV STBs authenticated and approved by Jawwy TV can connect to its network and access its services. Irdeto-managed root of trust provides Jawwy TV’s STBs with built-in flexibility, enabling operators to “future proof” their video platforms by rolling-out new updates, services and security features to meet content owners’ requirements. It protects Jawwy TV’s investment against piracy and cyberattacks while providing the best user experience. As part of K&C for STBs, Irdeto will manage the end-to-end lifecycle management of Jawwy TV’s STBs, including the secure generation, provisioning, renewal, and even revocation, of operator owned and third party supplied security keys and certificates to ensure only authorized STBs run on the Intigral network.
Further enhancing its capability to disrupt piracy and ensuring that Jawwy TV customers’ viewing experience is not compromised, Intigral will use Irdeto App Watch to monitor for any illegal consumption of content or malicious apps that can impact the performance on its STBs. Irdeto will also provide Intigral with global and regional reporting on piracy data for apps and plugins and will manage the service on Intigral’s behalf to ensure any unauthorized activity is flagged immediately, protecting the viewing experience from piracy.
Irdeto App Watch is the first solution of its kind giving operators the confidence to embrace the Android TV open environment without fear. This award-winning service enables pay-TV operators to securely launch Operator Tier Android TV STB platforms and gather insights to increase their competitive advantage. It allows operators to satisfy consumer demand for their content of choice while also ensuring the viewers enjoy a safe and secure experience that safeguards them from potential risks associated with an open environment of an app store.
“We’re witnessing an increasing OTT demand for digital content worldwide, with consumers looking for the best quality content as well as the best-delivered service,” said Shane McCarthy, COO of Video Entertainment at Irdeto. “The adoption of Irdeto technologies allows Jawwy TV to provide its customers with excellent service while we support and manage network devices, help to keep their content and customers safe, provide invaluable consumer insights and improve the customer experience by alerting them of unstable and malicious apps.”
Commenting on this step, Intigral’s VP of Technology, Bill Sharp stated “We are partnering up with Irdeto for their known position as a leading player, globally and regionally, in digital platform security offering pay-TV operators the most advanced suite of products.” He continued “We are impressed by Irdeto’s ability to provide flexible content security solutions in a short period of time to boost our competitiveness with customized delivery environment, which further instills our trust in this partnership.”
