LAKE FOREST, Calif. — Newport Media, an innovative fabless semiconductor company supplying products to the mobile broadcast market, announced a commercial software license agreement with Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM). Under the terms of the agreement, Newport Media will license Qualcomm’s MediaFLO™ service layer client software, enabling Newport Media to integrate the software into its FLO™ application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) and protocol stack for MediaFLO device manufacturers. In September of 2006 Newport Media and Qualcomm had previously entered into a patent agreement covering Newport Media’s ASICs.
“This agreement demonstrates Newport Media’s commitment to delivering full-featured mobile broadcast solutions that meet the demands of our customers,” said Mohy Abdelgany, president and chief executive officer for Newport Media Inc. “We can now offer our customers a complete FLO ASIC and software solution, while speeding our time-to-market.”
“Collaborating with Newport Media serves as an opportunity to highlight a growing list of products and services available on the MediaFLO platform,” said Mike Coad, vice president of partner relations for Qualcomm MediaFLO Technologies. “We’re pleased that the agreement further establishes MediaFLO as an open mobile broadcast standard and strengthens our global ecosystem.”
