Leading Indian conglomerate chooses Irdeto for integrated conditional access, middleware and customer care & billing solution for new DTH service

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands — IBC 2008 — Irdeto (JSE: NPN), a leading expert in content and business model protection solutions and services, announced today that it has signed an agreement to provide its end-to-end DVB SmartStart solution for the DTH operations of the USD$5 Billion consumer electronics, oil and telecom conglomerate Videocon’s (Mumbai: 511389) media arm, Bharat Business Channel Ltd under the brand name “D2H+”.

Videocon is a leading television manufacturer in India with nearly a third of the market share. Its media arm, Bharat Business Channel, which is expected to launch in last quarter of 2008, will deliver DTH pay TV services with over 240 channels and in eight languages.

The D2H+ service will be powered by the Irdeto DVB SmartStart complete pay TV solution, which is designed to ease the launch of new digital TV operations in a cost-effective way while paving the way for a pay TV operator’s future success. The SmartStart package consists of the Irdeto DVB conditional access solution, the Irdeto IBS modular customer care and billing system, and Irdeto IDway-J set-top box middleware with EPG. Irdeto is also providing the end-to-end professional services required for the successful launch of DTH+.

The Java-based Irdeto IDway-J middleware enables the Irdeto reference platform to be integrated easily with different set-top box designs, as well as with multiple devices such as CRT and LCD television sets, enabling D2H+ to roll out its services more efficiently by accelerating the time to market for high quality set-top boxes developed by India’s largest consumer electronics brand Videocon. The middleware is fully compliant with DVB standards and includes a customizable user interface with Western and Indian languages and dialects support and optional PVR extensions.

“Our D2H+ brand is set to become a key player in the DTH space, and in Irdeto we have the right partner to help us grow our presence in the market,” said Anil Khera, CEO of BBCL. “Irdeto’s end-to-end DVB SmartStart solution gives us the flexibility to respond quickly to the needs of the market, while providing us with the assurance of mature, proven technology and professional services expertise backed by over 40 years of experience in this space.”
