France - First digital TV survey results released
Thursday, October 2nd, 2008
The ‘Observatoire de l’équipement des foyers pour la réception de la télévision numérique’ has made public the results of its first survey.
The Observatoire, established by the Conseil supérieur de l’audiovisuel (CSA), aims to provide the Government with reliable and regularly updated data on the level of access to digital TV reception equipment in French homes and to inform decisions of the CSA during the switchover from analogue to all digital.
Médiamétrie has been selected to conduct the studies commissioned by the Observatoire.
Among the highlights for the first half of 2008 are the following:
- 57.8% of homes had access to digital television (terrestrial, satellite, ADSL or cable) at the end of the first half;
- Nearly 30% of households are fully digital (all household TVs have digital access);
- Digital terrestrial television provided most of the growth. Reception of television via ADSL also made significant advances.
