German Cable Operator Kabel BW Selects Harmonic for New VOD Service

Harmonic’s Asset Preparation Solutions, EdgeQAMs, Video Servers and Content Distribution Network Software to Be Deployed for Germany’s First Cable VOD Service

COLOGNE, Germany — Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ:HLIT) today announced that Kabel Baden Württemberg GmbH (Kabel BW), a cable video service provider with more than 2.3 million subscribers in Germany, has selected Harmonic and eventIS solutions for its video-on-demand (VOD) commercial trial, to be launched in late 2009. This implementation represents Germany’s first major cable VOD service deployment.

Harmonic is powering the complete VOD delivery infrastructure, with industry-leading products including StreamLiner® 2000 video servers, Armada® intelligent asset manager, CLEARcut™ offline content preparation, Rhozet™ Carbon Coder™ universal transcoding, NSG™ 9000 universal edgeQAMs, ProStream™ 1000 stream processing platform and NMX Digital Service Manager™. Kabel BW has selected the eventIS TRAXIS, SPECTRIS and PRODIS VOD back-office products.
