New Portable IP/OTT STB is small enough to fit in your handbag

LONDON — TV Connect — AirTies Wireless Networks, a leading supplier of advanced wireless and OTT/IPTV technologies, will be showcasing a portable wireless set-top box, which is small enough to fit into your handbag. Measuring just 10x10cms, the miniature STB attaches wirelessly to the IP gateway and can easily be moved from room to room. It features remote control and home automation capabilities to enable you to programme it remotely and is portable enough to take on holiday, or take around to the neighbours to watch the football.

The combination of wireless connectivity and the device‟s miniature form factor makes it a “Set-top box To Go”, allowing consumers to take their HD viewing experience with them to the next room or the next country. The STB wirelessly connects to the home gateway and works on any unmanaged internet connection, effectively unbundling the provision of the Pay TV service from the broadband service offering and opening up new revenue-stream opportunities.

The STB’s small form factor makes it the perfect thin client device for second or third TVs in a multi-room service. The Air 7205 features Zigbee RF4C (Radio Frequency for Consumer Electronics) and on-board antennas allowing it to be remotely controlled. It is based on the Broadcom 7230 System-on-a-Chip (SOC) and supports HTML5, Open IPTV Forum APIs and advanced DRMs, alongside multicast and OTT technologies such as MPEG-DASH, HLS and Smooth Streaming to optimise performance to available bandwidth.

The Air 7205 comes complete with built-in 2×2 802.11n wireless connectivity, operating at 2.4 or 5GHz frequencies, together with its trademark AirTies Mesh Technology, allowing consumer self-service installation and extending the wireless coverage to every corner of the house.

According to Bulent Celebi, Chairman and co-Founder of AirTies: “This new miniature “STB To Go” with its ability to wirelessly connect to any Gateway at the press of a button and offer HD TV viewing any place on a standard internet connection opens up the Pay-TV market to valuable new service possibilities such as expatriates or to deliver a Full Pay TV Everywhere service without content or quality limitations.”
