COSTA MESA, USA — NDS Group, the leading provider of technology solutions for digital pay-TV, today announced that it has been chosen to implement an enhanced suite of interactive applications for Cox Communications on their tru2way set-top boxes (STBs). The applications offer a wide range of entertainment and information services for subscribers including: integrated telephony services, email, news, sports, weather, games, movie listings, Mosaic video channels, widgets, horoscopes and lottery results, as well as a customer care facility.

The enhanced suite of interactive applications has been developed to more closely complement the new UI design currently being implemented by NDS for Cox, which integrates program information for Cox’s existing service offerings of Video On Demand (VOD), digital video recorder (DVR) and linear channels, into an intuitive, user-friendly UI.

“Staying true to our commitment to customers to ensure simple and intuitive navigation, Cox worked closely with the NDS design and development teams to ensure that the final product suite, while providing advanced services, remains user-friendly and fits seamlessly within the new UI framework,” said Steve Necessary, Vice President of Video Strategy and Product Development at Cox. “We achieved all of these goals thanks to the extensive knowledge and resources of the NDS team. The integration and implementation of these interactive applications is proving to be a smooth process thanks to the expertise and close collaboration between Cox and NDS.”

“Based on our vast experience of UI and electronic program guide installations around the world, NDS was confident that we could supply the development expertise Cox was looking for in the creation of its customized platform,” said Steve Tranter, Vice President of Broadband and Interactive for NDS. “We have a great depth of understanding of design and development of tru2way applications which we leveraged to produce a next-generation tru2way solution that we trust will exceed the expectations of Cox’s customers.”

Tru2way technology is a common software platform that will enable cable companies, consumer electronics companies, content and technology developers and others to extend interactivity to a TV, STB or DVR.

NDS and Cox have been working together for more than a year on a variety of technology deployments beginning with the implementation of NDS’ IEX automated STB testing solution. During this time, the collaboration has grown ever deeper in the drive to move forward with next-generation, interactive and user-friendly applications designed to engage and excite Cox’s audiences.

NDS will be showcasing its leadership in UI, EPG and interactive application design and development at NCTA in Washington DC from April 1-3, 2009, Booth ES-19 and at the CableNET stand. For customer appointments, please contact Katy Flores at kflores@nds.com.
